It's a little different when you hide behind an anonymous name on the internet and suddenly somebody has some way of identifying you. You never know who is out there reading this stuff. On the rare occasion that I post a picture of my pickup here, I blur out the plate.

My thoughts exactly. I don't get it. And odds are that if I'm interested in looking at the car, you'll willingly give me your first name and home address. I could do a lot more with that information than with your license plate.

If I even bother doing it, I'll blur the plate in Photoshop. But I usually don't do anything.

Good point, actually. I once had a guy on CL threaten to drive to my house and fight me because I decided not to sell a guitar amplifier. Well, technically he threatened to have his girlfriend drive him over because he lost his license. Strangely, that threat didn't carry much weight.

People think they will use the plate to get your address, and then just come steal the car since they know it's there and what all it has done to it.

It's been a while, but law school taught us that anything that's out in public (save looking in a window or classified sites) is fair game. As someone else pointed out here - it's out in public. Snap away. NYers have this fight with the police all the time.
